Last night I was arrested while beaming “The Met* Brought to you by the Tea Party” and “This is a museum not an oil lobby” onto the Metropolitan Museum of Art during the inauguration of the David H. Koch Plaza. Apparently the price tag on that sweet little piece of cultural capital was $65 million. We face jail time and a large fine, but that’s not stopping us from exercising our First Amendment rights throughout the Climate March and beyond. You can read about it online.

This month has been quite different than the last. I find myself as an artist in residence in Green River, Utah, population 954 (including me!). It’s been difficult to position myself in a role that feels comfortable both for the Epicenter and myself. I teamed up with Evan Rimoldi on a guerrilla installation that operates as a kind of kinetic sculpture. Situated within an abandoned military base in the desert, it has a meditative quality as well as an air of reclamation.
I also took the opportunity to contemplate my feelings on nationalism while I resided in the conservative southwest. It seems to me that there are two Americas–the symbolic which is abstract and includes the flag, the political sphere, etc. and the land, which is not abstract but literal and in this part of the country quite fixed.

I spent the month up in Montreal to collaborate with student activists on a guerrilla projection intervention. The short story is that post-student movement, the government made protests with more than fifty people illegal. The idea of this project was to circumvent the law, P-6, by projecting virtual protestors in great numbers in procession on high-profile targets. Tim McSorley of VICE rode along and wrote a fantastic article about it.

I was asked to install a projected version of the Color Organisms piece for the Cut Log Art Fair.

I was interviewed by NPR for the show All Things Considered regarding an interventionist situation I created with the Illuminator. You can listen to the interview online.
