BRNG, Biological Random Number Generator
Within Edward Snowden’s recent revelations is a warning that the random number generation hardware used in Intel computers was compromised by the NSA. This project serves as both a tactical response to state overreach, and as an entry point into a philosophical conversation about the nature of random. I posit a continuum of potential for ‘randomness’ from machines to biological creatures. In BRNG, I track the unpredictable movements of cilliates to build high entropy random numbers. The microbes were harvested in Bluffdale, Utah, near the massive NSA Data Center.
